How is everyone doing this crazy time of year? I have made slippers to be felted,1 itchy scarf and a felted coaster that was suppose to have 6 straight sides which has turned out with curvy sides.( I now have 1 felted flower coaster!) I also made a felted flower pin from a kit I bought 2 years ago at Rhinebeck. I don’t know who will get these treasures! Are you glad you are not on my list? But all kidding aside, it is a great time of year to give our knitted treasures
I stopped at Mocha’s Fiber Connection in Colchester to find some curly dyed yarn to put in the center of the flower. They pulled out a bag of curly dyed yarn and just said to take some. It is an interesting store with a lot of roving for spinning or felting, plus many beautiful hand dyed yarns. Worth a stop if you are in the area, but call first to make sure they are open.860 537-0293 email www.mochasfiberconnection.com
The club decided that for the Holiday Dec. meeting to forgo the $20 grab bag gift and instead make out a check for The CT Food Bank in any amount that you want. The CT Food Bank is able to supply 3 meals for every dollar contributed. It is such desperate times for many. Also, if you have made any hats, mittens, or scarfs that you would like to donate, please bring them to the meeting and they will be given to the needy
The Dec. meeting will be a buffet dinner starting at 6:45. If you haven’t signed up for a munchy, please e-mail me and I will get the info to Elaine. It will be an evening to sit back, eat, relax and knit with friends - and of course, show and tell. You can’t miss the show and tell of my “exotic flower coaster

The next meeting of the Nutmeg Knitters Guild will be held on Wednesday November 19, 2008 7:00 PM in the lower level of the Bethany Covenant Church, 85 Mill Street, Berlin, CT

I want to again thank Jeanne Drury for such an inspiring program. I was so turned on by her sweaters, that I took the plunge and bought a Philosopher’s Carpetbagger Jacket kit at the Rhinebeck Wool Festival. The directions are something else. I think I have met my challenge!! What’s your number Jeanne?
The Finishing Technique class led by Dori Becherman was a success. The 4 hours just flew by. She was a great instructor with good handouts. I especially liked the instructions on short rowing for the shoulders and how to map out a diagram from the traditional shoulder instructions to the short row format. There will also be a lot of competent kitchener stitch people working on their socks.
As the holidays are approaching, I am awakened at night with visions of knitted gifts dancing in my head. A pair of felted slippers, felted coasters, pair of wild socks and a couple of different patterned scarves just waiting to be made. But wait — I will have another clever gift to give.
Denise from The Yarn Garden in Meriden will be presenting the Nov. program on making a knitted sachet. Everything will be supplied to complete the project except for the knitting needles. (BRING SIZE 3 and 4 needles)
I have seen it made up - very pretty and smells delicious. I think there will be a couple of techniques that many of us haven’t done before in this project.
I look forward to seeing old friends and new faces at the next meeting. Don’t forget those Show and Tell items.
Keep those needles clicking,
Ginny
