Well, I am about to come to many endings and new beginnings in my life. First, I have enjoyed being president of Nutmeg Knitters for 2 years, but at this time will be stepping down to deal with my second big change — I HAVE SOLD MY HOUSE!! We will be moving on June 17 to an interim place while our new home is being remodeled. I have lived in my home in Middle Haddam for 18 years and my husband and I have collected a lot of stuff from all our hobbies. Yarn, material, sewing machines, etc are a pain to move but how about engines, tools and all sorts of car parts? We have our work cut out for us!

The last meeting for Nutmeg Knitters before summer is this June 16th. We will be on “vacation” for July and August. It should be a fun meeting with a program, ice cream social, election of officers and of course “show and tell”. However, we do have a little work to do at the meeting. We still have openings for Program, Hospitality and Secretary. I hope each and every one of you will think where you could fit in to keep the club active and maybe even stretch a little and leave your comfort zone to be involved in the organization like you have never done before. It could be very rewarding.

Keep those needles clicking,

The drama of my yarn stash continues! I have taken the boxes of yarn down to the house we will be renovating. It is a small cape with all sorts of nooks and crannies for storage. We have planned to put more insulation in this 60+ year house and voila- I have succeeded in getting this done. I ask you, can there be any better insulation than wool? Yarn is in every nook there is. The only problem, I feel insecure not having any extra yarn where I”m still living.

Talking about yarn, we are coming down the home stretch with two remaining meetings before summer. Again, I ask everyone to see where they could fit into the workings of our great club. I have had but 1 response for a position on next years board.

Keep those needles clicking,

Happy Spring! This is my favorite time of the year with all the new growth of the plants with their blossoms bursting after the long winter. Our gardens liked the deluge of rain even if our basements didn’t!
We are down to the last three meetings of this year. I thought I would present the vacancies in the board for the coming year with a short job description, so people could mull over where they feel they could fit in and it would give them time to talk with the outgoing board member regarding the position.

President: Run the monthly meeting. Set up and run board meetings as needed – usually 1 or 2 meetings a year. Get the contract for our meeting site.

Vice-President: Fill in to run the meetings when the president not in attendance. We had no V.P. this year and Pat Norcia kindly ran one meeting. (We are all friends and help each other.)

Secretary: Takes minutes of the business meeting and gets them to the editor of the newsletter for publication.

Program: This can be a shared position. Plan the monthly meetings. Yarn Shops are a good resource and gladly will present a short program of interest. Also, there are talented members willing to share.

Newsletter: Silvia has a digital guide to assist you in the newsletter. It would help to be computer savvy.

Raffle: Shop for a monthly raffle prize at yarn shops and run the raffle at the meeting. The club gives the money upfront for the purchase. It is not a position of asking for donations.

Hospitality: Set up a sign-up sheet for snacks and a Box of Joe. Remind members monthly. Store and bring in club’s teapot, etc. each month. Organize a potluck or whatever food oriented event that might be planned.

We certainly have a friendly group of women and a great club in The Nutmeg Knitters. I’m sure volunteers will come forward to fill these vacancies. You may e-mail me with your offers of help. The election will be done by ballot at the June meeting. Thanks in advance.

We have had our house on the market for awhile and I figured I should start getting organized and find out what I have lurking in my closets. (Positive thinking on my part that we will actually ever sell!)

The first closet contained yarn that I had stashed behind the clothes. This closet is about 30 ‘ long and I had plenty of room to store ALOT of yarn without a problem. I found many projects with patterns and specific yarn, yarns that I just had to have and was waiting for just the right pattern, enough sock yarn to keep the toes of the entire town warm and some yarn that I have no idea why I purchased. I had the yarn spread all over the bedroom when I heard footsteps on the stairs. There was no way to hide all these luscious piles of yarn. My husband took one look and was genuinely surprised that it had all come out of the closet. He suggested that maybe it was time to visit a few yarn shops and “restock their shelves”.

I did have a moment when I thought I might have a problem.

It felt good to donate bags of yarn to a retirement home. I felt lighter. The rest of the yarn was reorganized and put back in the closet. I told myself that I had enough projects to keep me going for a looong time. It is like a retirement fund. The magazine came in the mail. There are some real neat new and interesting patterns that I would love to try. I just need the right yarn. HELP!

I’ll see you on the 17th.

Keep those needles clicking,

Happy New Year! It seems like only yesterday that we had our holiday party. We not only have good knitters, but great cooks in the club. All was delicious! Thank you one and all for contributing to this social evening.

Hopefully, all the presents have been completed, given and fit. I made a sweater, hat and booties for my 4 mos. old grandchild. The hat was the hit of the gathering as Jade seriously sat looking at all the people laughing at this little beanie sitting on top of her head. I don’t think it was the fault of my knitting- she just has to have a very large head!!

Elaine and Gina have another interesting program planned. Marion from The Village Wool in Glastonbury will present a technique of Knitting in the Row Below.

See you soon.
